Chloé Guérin – « Selling yourself »
In 3rd year I had the choice of either doing a study abroad at the TEC of Monterrey, Mexico, or working abroad. Knowing that less than a year and a half later I would be on the labor market, starting my professional career, I have chosen to go with the work abroad to estimate my ability of finding a job. The challenge for me was not to find an internship but an open-ended contract in the marketing field. So that is how I have headed to Australia, empty hands but full of determination. From January to august 2009 I have been working as a B2B sales team leader in a direct marketing company part of the international COBRA group. Training, recruiting, retaining, setting up goals and selling were my daily responsibilities.

It has been a gratifying experience where I found the opportunity to apply the knowledge the MBA institute taught me but moreover to acquire a lot. The company having difficulties to remain sustainable, it has been relocated to the headquarters in Melbourne, in order to “rebuild” the company. I had the chance to be chosen among others employees to be a part of it. At some point, the company offered me the opportunity to stay longer in Australia by sponsoring my visa and to open my own direct marketing company on the long run.
Nevertheless, I have decided to come back at the MBA Institute and finish my studies.
Among other reasons, my choice has been motivated by the will of achieving my MBA education. To be honest, the MBA Institute was not my first choice after the baccalaureate. It actually was my 5th. Although I was seduce by the opportunity the MBA Institute gives to study abroad in the United States, I couldn’t adhere to a school which wasn’t approved by the state to beginning with. As a matter of fact, every business school teach you business but only the MBA Institute teach you how to sell yourself. It is a massive advantage that I learnt to appreciate. Motivation, passion, determination and work ethic is every thing it took for me to succeed, but more importantly my ability to sell myself has been my advantage over my several work experience whether it has been in Paris, London or Australia.
In a world financial crisis situation, not only the international dimension, the MBA institute provides is essential but as well the ability of selling yourself is. I couldn’t say it enough. My professional career has just started and I have a lot of challenges ahead that I know I am able to take up thanks to my teachers, Clive Gallery the school director, and overall thanks to the MBA institute.
